MG MGF Technical - Wing mirror woes

I have a quick question having cunningly knocked my driver's side wing mirror off this morning by reversing and clipping a dastardly post (all the
wiring is still in place...)

The question is will I have to replace the entire
car :-) Looking at the innards of the wing mirror it
looks like a plastic insert has sheared and I was
wondering whether it was possible to simply replace
this part (he said rather hopefully!) and if so how
difficult the repair would be...

Any comments welcome (preferably constructive!).

Obviously I cannot see thge extent of the damage but Victoria at MGF Centre should be able to sort you a full, lttle used, mirror assembly of the correct colour at a suitable price.

When you say "all the wiring" you will need to specify if heated and/or electrically adjusted. Mine e.g. are heated only while later models could be both.

Also Midland MGF.

Both advertise on this BBS and are worthy of patronage.

Also remember that the early MGFs shared their wing mirrors with the Rover Metro (another source of parts), and later MGFs with the Rover 200 (motorised)...

Thanks for that Rob, I hadn't realised that (being an F'er for less than 2 years).

LOL, answers are the same constructive as the question :)

The RV8 is also the same ;) (I daubt, you will find that one at breakers)

I have sourced a pair of R200 electric mirrors recently and compared, they are the same. None electric from Metro or R2000 may have different lever mechanic outside. However, the plastic parts could be swapped over.

... you are not alone ;)

Dieter, I think that the Metro mirrors are identical: my sister-in-law has one, and the internal lever is exactly the same. Not sure whether it is heated or not... But could check.

Thanks for all the helpful comments.... I think I'll be
getting in touch with the MGF Centre (or finding a Rover 200!).

Cheers,
