MG MGF Technical - Wiper failure

MGF VVc 1996.....wipers have stopped working. This happened a few weeks ago for a short time, but now...nothing.

The 20A fuse under the dash is ok, I can hear a relay clicking when I move the stalk, but nowt else happens.

I have checked the archive, mainly Dirk complaining about the motors. Mine looks ok externally......

Any further suggestions?

if water has got into it then it may have corroded internally, this has come up a bit before but might be found by searching including cowel (sp?)

Did the motor getting noisier over the last few weeks...? I had to replace my wiper motor a few months ago and found that although externally the motor looked fine it was full of brown sludge and the coil had become badly worn.

Remedy for this was to obtain a second hand motor cost me 30 quid (new ones are 100ish) and replace the old one. I put some notes together and Rob is hosting them on his site.

The job should take about 40 minutes, I managed to find all the pit falls so do check on my notes first, otherwise there could be a lot of fiddling about later.

Of course there may be another explaination but let's see what others suggest.

PS Forgot to give my usual plug to Victoria at the MGF Centre. Give Victoria a call 01902 403045. I'm sure she will sort you out with a secondhand motor if you need it, Don't know how much she charges though, but will be very reasonable.

£50 from midland MGF.
Akward job too, only half way through as working this pm

And yes, the old motor is full of red rusty water & crud.

(so that's what the plastic thing does, keeps water off the wiper motor. b****r)
thanks for the advice.
