MG MGF Technical - Wiper Not Stopping in the Right Place!

Hi All

I've just bought my first MGF today 2001 Yreg.

I noticed the wipers are stopping before getting to the base of the windscreen! When switched on, they continue the downward motion before there upward motion. And when I switch off they stop about 3" from the bottom. You can see on the pic.

Is this an diy fix or do I need to take it to a specialist????

Thanks Gareth

Hmm, not come across that before. My guess would be that the wiper motor has been replaced, but the wiper mechanism wasn't in the correct 'rest' position when the new motor was bolted in. If that's the case, DIY fix is likely - remove the motor from the linkage mechanism, push the wiper arms into correct 'rest' position, then re-attach motor.

Welcome to the exciting world of F ownership ;o)

Completely agree - and this is almost certainly what has happened. It's easy to set correctly however - and there's some detail on how to do this here: http://mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/wipers/wiper_motor_replacement.htm

So yup, definite DIY job :o)

Oh, and welcome aboard! Jeepers, forgetting my manners there, sorry Gareth :o)

Gareth, Rob's site should be firmly added to your web Favourites. The number of beers I owe him for saving me time, money & bad vocabulary over the years stands at a liver-disease-inducing level.

Water ingress is definitely the most likely reason the previous motor expired, and the importance of the black plastic moulding that should protect it is not to be under-estimated...

Thank you Rob & Bandit, I've got a 30day warranty, so I'll print it out and give it to the garage tomorrow, I don't think they will know to much about the MGF!!!

I imagine I maybe leaning on you Rob as I know very little about the cars and don't know at this point if I have a good one!!! I've never had a mid engine car before or a convertable for that matter!!!

Also see manta73.webs.com......my little monster!!!!

Thanks guys - I'll now struggle to get my head through the door! LOL

Oo! Like the Manta! Like the mods you've done too. Anything planned for the engine? (For PPC readers, what you'd now be shouting is "Stick a V8 in it!")
Rob Bell

The engine is being rebuilt with fast road cams, lightened flywheel and the QEDs, that will do me!!!

gl henson

Sounds really nice. Hopefully will see the car one day. :o)
