MG MGF Technical - Wobble in speedo needle

Hi All,

I did some high speed driving last week and noticed a little problem with my speedo needle. At speeds up to around 80 kmph, the needle has a slight "wobble" in it. Nothing too major but it is one of those things you tend to fixate on and take your mind off the road.

When I was up around 110-120 kmph, the wobble went away.

Any ideas what the problem might be and what needs to be done to fix it?

Cheers

A few things have been suggested on this like splitting the cables turning drive through 90 degrees and rejoining. I found coating the inside cable with thich copper grease worked well after a number of years of this problem from new. Ims sure there is plenty on the archive.

Mine has the same problem but at around 30mph. It's never bothered me that much - I don't do 30 very much!

Only wobble I get is when I've had a few too many beers - or when the missus wants to spend a load of money.

Like Emmas car mine liked to do this at 30mph but also 70 mph only. The coppergrease on only the upper cable nearly completely eliminated it (but it moved to 40 and 80 mph)this was after a dealer failed to fix it from new under warranty. It was so common on earlier cars that Rover issued a technical Bulletin on it and a spec of +/-1mph I would try the copper gearse first as it easy to do after removing the plastic cover under the bonnet and I got mine much better than the Rover Spec. It should take less than 15 mins to do.

I Have a similar problem, one of those things that bugs me. Anyhow took to local mg dealer, said it could be one of 3 cables, lower, upper, middle cable (i think,) replaced the lower cable wasnt that one, so decided to fit other 2 poss cables (which they didnt have in stock,) so am taking back on tuesday as part now in at a cost off over £100 inc labour :(
