MG MGF Technical - won,t start ( rapid clicking noise)

Hi all, the f now is refuseing to start, the battery is fully charged. When you turn the key all you get is a rapid clicking noise. The locking system is also making the same noise as the car locks, it lasts about 5 seconds and then goes. Any ideas????, THANKS MEL..

Evening Mel!.. (I wont say Good!:o()

Are you sure the Battery is Good??... just cause its fully charged, it could still not be giving out enough power to turn the engine over!!.. Perhaps try a set of jump leads first!!... this would also fit with your CL probs!.

If it was just clicking on the starter then it could be the Starter motor itself!, Had similar on my F a few months ago, fitted a new one and all ok!!.... well other than the skin loss to my knuckles!!.. LOL

Mel

really rapid clicking bit like a machine gun? Sounds like the starter solenoid making/breaking because not enough power to spin the starter motor.

don't know if you can buy the solenoid on it's own - used to be able to "when I were a kid".

THANKS mark and john, i will try the jump leads tomorrow although it had a 10 mile run so i thought the battery should be fully charged ?? the noise is like a machine gun, the noise is in the engine bay and also in the cab, when i try to start it. At least it failed at home. mel..
