MG MGF Technical - Xpower panel air filter

Any views or opinions about these for the TF - any rolling-road results etc. I am going to B+G later and may be tempted! (mind you compared with the 42bhp/60nm increase I got for the Saab recently for the official Saab upgrade at £350 I'm not expecting miracles!)

Which X-Power filter are we talking about? The complete replacement induction kit, or the replacement panel filter?
Rob Bell

the panel filter only - this one http://www.mg-xpower.com/mgshop/product.asp?cat_id=116&prod_id=412&bhcp=1 oh great master of the darkside!

Tony,

I use this panel filter on my TF 160 and I'm very happy with it. Unfortunately, I haven't done any before/after rolling road tests to quantify the improvements, but when I replaced my OE filter with this one - and at the same time redirected the front airbox duct to the car's left hand side air intake and modified the rear duct - I felt a clear improvement in throttle response and top end power. For the details, you can look up the thread "Great induction mods for TF 160 !!" in the archive.

I don't know where it is cheapest to shop, but you can also buy this filter at http://www.greenfilters.com/ . The Green part number is P950375.

I have the X-power panel filter fitted in my TF160 and standard air intake pipes. As Per says, it is the Green filter (even comes in the standard Green box unlike the Eibach Xpower springs which are reboxed), though Green were as expensive as MGS&R when I bought last year.
Does it make a difference - mmm probably. I think that the response across the range is better, but it is a perception. I suspect that the power increase is minimal, but it is better than the OEM, so is worth the money. After all OEM is only slightly cheaper and wont let as much air through.

The panel filter is, I think, reasonable value for money. In my experience, whilst it won't set the world alight, it does result in a pleasing improvement in throttle response and general 'driveability' - so yes, I'd certainly go for it.

In fact, when I first used a panel filter, I was so delighted with it, I was nicked for speeding, so be warned! ;o)

Thanks guys, looks like I'll try Green filters direct as B+G said it is almost immpossible to get anything out of Xpower! I presume this is warranty friendly?
Tony

It looks the same as the X Power filter because it is the same - so from the warranty perspective, just tell them you've fitted the XP filter, and there shouldn't be a problem.
