MG TD TF 1500 - AA Badge ' Key'

Does anybody have one of these keys? If so. would it be possible to have a picture of one sent to me. Also, does anybody know the history of the keys, eg-when they first came out and if there were different types over the years? And, by chance, would one of you have one for sale?
Any help would be appreciated.

I have one I can get you a picture of. It was sent along with the AA badge from some nice people in the homeland. I had to ask about the key...hey I didn't know. It's not for sale.. I can't comment about the when's ..I only now know the why.

Is this what you are after? This was given to me by a friend but I know nothing about these. Anyone got some history on these?

Matthew.

The AA Key was used to gain access to the AA boxes by the side of the road when you needed assistance.

Part of the History is here

I never had to use it though :)

There is a more extensive history of the AA boxes here:

I have seen one of the remaining boxes at the top of Porlock Hill on the A39 in Somerset, UK. This also had a water tank next to it so that drivers could top up their radiators after coming up the 1 in 4 Porlock Hill.

I recall my father having one of these keys, but I do not think we ever had to use it!

There is an AA box on the coast road in Brancaster on the North Norfolk coast. I also believe that AA and RAC keys were the same!

Thanks everybody for all the great information and history of the "AA" keys. It keeps amazing me how all of you "ALWAYS" pitch in and give information on anything to do with the "T" Series. I feel this is one of, if not the best, BBS sites.
Cheers,
Barry
