MG TD TF 1500 - 150 HP XPAG

I just received an E mail from an engine builder, with my semi race roller lifter camshaft kit 2 XPAG engines both supercharged, 15# boost, methanol fuel, 150 HP. both HP & torque curves converge @ 6,500 RPM.
This with a semi race cam, not my full race roller cam.

Something completely impractical! Methanol? 15 pounds boost? How long between tear-downs?

I have uploaded 2 photo's of the race cars to the BBS, but they have not been posted, both have been successfully uploaded, as per the web site. what has happened?

I have a friend with a street-going XPAG putting out a claimed 108HP, after subtracting 12HP for the blower. Purrs like a kitten, runs on pump gas and completely reliable. 150HP on methanol is not going to work on anything but a full blown race car, and perhaps not for long at that! I've seen 140HP XPAG engines running on high octane gas. I'm not sure I would have gone for the extra 10HP and have to run methanol, but I'm sure the owner had good enough reason.

MG LaVerne

Hello,
Here is a pic of the Pierce MG, which also has a blown XPAG engine.
I photographed it last summer on the Zandvoort Circuit during classic car races and met the owner, mr James Willis.
Later we met during the Beaulieu International Autojumble, where he visited my stand and inspected the twincam XPAGprototype.

Here is a photo of Jake Vigselo’s ’38 XPAG engined TA. It too makes 150HP measured at the wheels (See Dyno chart) on 14 pounds boost and 106 Octane race gas using one of my older supercharger designs. Methanol is wonderful stuff, VERY high octane! though you use lots more of it than gas. It has fantastic anti-detonation properties, so is great to use with blowers. It does have the down side of being VERY corrosive and will dissolve your SU’s unless you take precautions. I used barrels of the stuff years ago in my JAWA Speedway bike.

Here the Dyno sheet, sorry, it's in Danish, but you can get the data...

Len,
Great numbers and great looking cars! The bronze car looks to be based on TC chassis. What chassis has the red car? Do both run TC gearboxes? What cranks, diffs etc? Where do you run the cars? Do you have any "in car" footage on Youtube? Tell me more. I am fascinated!

Eric,
Was the twin cam XPAG engine a factory thing, or is it a more recent project?

What I want to know is how Len Fanelli manages to hang his cars on the ceiling. Major space saver!!! What's the trick, Len, just powerful magnets?
Geoffrey M Baker

Smoke & mirrors!
My computer is locking up after a few minutes!
Thanks to LaVerne he corrected the photo!
Len Fanelli

Same car (TC8855) at Rob Roy hillclimb May 2010. Went pretty quick then.

Ian Fry

Bob Boast in the car above was 2 seconds faster, after installing his roller cam.
Len Fanelli

Sorry to divert - but in the pic of Bob Boast above, what the heck is that white thing mounted on the concrete plinth with the MG logo, just behind the car?
Geoffrey M Baker

Goff,
just do a search for Rob Roy Hillclimb,,,
