MG TD TF 1500 - 1500 Manifolds

Is it normal for the intake to not be able to come off with the exhaust manifold in place? I'm thinking of grinding the intake flange down a bit to clear and was wondering if this is a common thing with the 1500 setup.
Steve Simmons

If you are referring to a TF1500, then yes, they are a b****r.
They can be removed and re-installed without taking the bonnet side off, but removing the studs is essential, and then very tricky to get back with the manifolds close by.
Ian Bowers

I have removed mine a couple of times without removing the side panels or bonnet. But the carbs and heat shield have to go before. When all is loose, I can wiggle the manifolds and "walk" them off the studs. PJ

Sorry guys, I mean the manifolds themselves not the body panels. If the engine was out of the car and you went to remove the manifolds, the intake will not come off while the exhaust is on the engine. The mounting flange of the intake hits the exhaust manifold and won't let it come off. Is this normal?
Steve Simmons

Hi Steve. The answer is yes they interfear. I've seen some that don't I think what day of the week they were cast and who cut off the flash.

Thanks Butch. I'll go ahead and grind the intake flange down a bit. The engine is in a TC so that will allow the carbs to be pulled in one piece without disconnecting the exhaust. Doesn't look like it will be an issue.
