MG TD TF 1500 - 3rd brake light?
Has anyone installed a 3rd brake light? Having built a '34 Ford coupe hot rod last year, I'm quite familiar with the models out in the marketplace. There are dozens to choose from. I'm just wondering before I dig in in earnest, has anyone done one. How/where did you mount it? I'm thinking about hiding it behind the spare tire (I have TF spoked wheels) so drivers behind can see it better than a casual car show browser. |

Cheap and cheerful but it works, it is now fitted directly to the hub cap with a plug connector. Ray TF2884 ![]() |

See http://www.ttalk.info/led_high_mounts.htm for what I've been running since '06. And, before that it was http://www.ttalk.info/Tech/HighMountLights.htm Bud |

Hereīs mine. Fixed to the spokes of the spare wheel with allen screws so can eb taken off easily should the spare be needed (never happend so far...) Its clear LED, unobtrusive when off, but nice and bright red when on. And no additional strain on the brake light switch. Itīs motorcycle (Harley old school) standard, easy to get. Rgds, Mike ![]() |

Mr. Andrus There are many options out there. I like mine. I used a Lucas light mounted to my luggage rack. This light is the Lucas 493, I believe. They are regularly on ebay. It matches my backup light, as you can see. I installed a brake light relay to protect the circuit. It is bright. It can be easily removed. And, no, I really never put anything on the rack that might block the brake light. Tom '54 TF ![]() |

Some good options. I'll post when I get something going. |

good question and I appreciate the photos, it's all "grist for the mill" I will definitely add a 3rd light at some point. |

Due to my irrational allegiance to things Lucas, I mounted this Triumph TR2 rear stop lamp on my spare tire using a hand carved plinth. It plugs in so can be removed if the tire is changed. Believe this lamp is also used on some British motorcycles.

Jasper, I have always liked your design,, It gives the option for a single of twin lights,, Is that a directional signal on the fender?? SPW |

Steve, Thanks. And yes the rear fenders have these tiny directional lights. They were mounted in November 1950, together with 2 trafficators under the windscreen mounts, and of course in combination with dual filaments in the original Lucas front fender ligths. Jasper |

Don't know the make of these tiny lights. It's an aluminium housing with a red and bright lens. A couple of years ago I've spotted the same lights on a '27 Renault saloon. Also in use as directional fender lights. Jasper ![]() |

Jasper's come up with the perfect solution...... REAR BADGE BAR!!!!!! I LIKE it! .... |

Jasper, your light unit looks like the type we had in the UK. It was mandatory to have lights when parked at night up to the 60's, these units JUST complied with the Law. Ray TF 2884 |

I've seen some done using the old Vincent/Velocette "STOP" taillight, which looks very nice being contemporary with our cars, though a little small for the purpose though but an LED conversion makes it respectably bright (I'm saving a peace sign chopper tailight for the purpose). ![]() |

Tom Norby, I don't want to hijack the thread but was wondering where you got your luggage rack. You can email me if you prefer... thanks! |

Geoff That is a Moss Motors "high mount" rack. Bought it a couple of years ago. I'm sure they still have the same one. Tom |

Like your mounting Mort! |

Thanks Tom. Guillotine or not, I like the look of it better than the low one, for some reason. |
