MG TD TF 1500 - 5/16” BSF T nuts.

I’m in need of (2) or more 5/16” BSF T nuts that mount the seat tracks to the floorboards. I’m not looking for UNF hardware. BSF only. FTFU doesnt carry larger than 1/4” T nuts. Anyone know a source for new stock? Anyone have new or used spares in their junk drawers?

George:

I have one original, taken out of my TD and 3 shop made duplicates.
The threads in the original are fair, the outside is pitted.

You will have difficulty in seeing any differences in the shop made ones, BUT they are 303/304 SS.

Abingdon Spares has them. Not round. Look like the ones at NTG in England.

You can still use a 5/16' BSF bolt if you are wanting to maintain the originality aspect.

Here is a 5/16' BSF bolt in an 8mm Metric T nut.

I ran a 5/16 BSF tap through this one to see if it would work, and it does it beautifully.

There is little difference in thread size etc, and the one I did just a few minutes ago, is strong, and has no slack in the threads.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Jim Benjamin has been very gracious in sending me his spares.

Maurie, Interesting that the 8mm thread is similar to the 5/16 BSF. I will take a bolt with me next time I’m going to my local hardware store and compare your findings.

Lonnie. I initially couldn’t find T-Nuts doing a search on NTG or AS website catalogs. Thank you for the PN’s and links.

I have said for some time that the tool kit for a T Series should include a centre lathe. With the lockdown I could spend a few very enjoyable hours with my Myford Super 7 turning up some of the T nuts.

Jan, I was thinking the same. I had to make one of the T nuts that holds the side panel on the fuel tank. No one has these.

It did not take long to lathe one out of steel and then thread it. Ground the old one off and welded the new one on.
