MG TD TF 1500 - 52 TD - need turn signal help
Left front light not coming on at all. Determined that the green with red might not be connected. Cannot locate where this wire ends butI might have traced it back to a silver box labeled "Lucas" under dash. Socket will work with test light if I jump one terminal. I added a small wire to simulate what I did with test light and even though it came on, does not flash. Both rears and right front flash. Does any one have a wire diagram or have a possible solution? |

Thanks Geoffry. Looks like I might have a break in the green red wire because that is the way its hooked up. Ill check for continuity later. Is there a way to test this box/indicator relay? Perhaps I'll switch left and right turn signal wire and see if the opposite happens. |

Thanks. That's helpful too Bud. Sorry I spelled your name incorrectly Geoffrey. It was very late when I posted, blurry eyed and half asleep. First step will be to jump a lead from the Green/red terminal on the relay to the socket and see if that will tell me if I have a broken wire - basically continuity. I can get a test light to work by touching metal on the car so my guess is that a ground wire is bad to this socket (or vice versa because it's positive ground) |

Vincent. Hello from Norway. Obvously the flasher is OK. Use a test lamp and and connect from terminal 2 on the relay box to earth If thelamp flshes the term 2 and the hole relaybox is ok.If the light stayes on without flashing the terminal 2 is broken. inside the box.( burned contacts.) If I put the wires back on as it was originally, red to one side, green/red to other, the side lamp will not light. Are you saying that if I leave it as is now, with the jumped wire to simulate that it stays lit and I connect terminal 2 to earth, it'll flash? If not I have a bad indicator relay? Does the indicator relay control all 4 lights independently or left and right? |

Had the same issue. It was a poorly grounded fender lamp. It grounds through the two bolts that attach the housing to the fender. I loosened , then tightened the bolts with the park lights on. got it to work. You most likely have tried this already. |

I agree with C.R. on this one. 99% of electrical problems with lamps are usually bad grounds after you eliminate filament problems. And as he said you can get enough power sometimes back feeding through the connects to allow the parking lamp to light but not enough to drive the turn signal. I got caught on this just the other day even though my lamps had worked for months prior. The ground really was not as solid as it should have been. |
