MG TD TF 1500 - A strange noise

Just when I thought Mobius was running great he reminded me that he is a LBC with a 64th birthday coming up on June 1st.

Loss of power?
Sputtering sound from exhaust?
Tinkling noises from the engine?
Sweat on drivers brow?

All of the above.

Notice what appears to be a casting defect. A small bubble like hole in the arm. It is not an oil line.

Fortunately no real damage. As soon as the replacement arrives Mobius should be up and ready for Sunday's Rally.

Sorry, Mort, you must remember the classic thing about the Möbius strip -- it's a never ending loop. Bud

OK, I'll bite. What's that part?

Thanks.

Jud,
Rocker arm.

Mort was the rocker arm original or an after market part. If a replacement who was the supplier?

Peter,
A lot of the engine parts seem rather new to me, so I am sure they are not original. I have no history beyond 2010 when I bought the car.

Wow! I bet that did make a racket and I suppose that cylinder didn't perform up to snuff. Was if on the intake or the exhaust valve? I can imagine not opening the intake would just make the cylinder not work but I'm trying to imagine what not openting the exhaust would do. I guess one the cylinder is fully charged noting else would go in during the intake stroke but the whole thing sounds horrendous not to mention I think you're running a blower to really push stuff in.

I hope no permanent damage was done.

Thanks.

Thanks Jud,
It was number 6, an intake location.
The plug was wet when I took it out. The piece that broke of was just laying in the head when I removed the valve cover. I could hear it knocking around a bit when it came loose but I drove it home. Everything else seems ok but I will know more in a few days.

Update,
Got a used replacement rocker arm locally and installed it yesterday. Did about 50 miles to a club dinner and ice cream run and all is well again.

Love to see you do a quick change and head back out on the road. These cars are old and are likely to experience issues now and again. The fact that your confidence wasn't hosed and you replaced the broken part and headed back out is great.

Dive it like you stole it!
