MG TD TF 1500 - Alternative to a MG

To make up for a dreadful weekend (issues with the rear apron I had arranged to collect and awful weather at Silverstone) I am taking a tour of the Morgan factory on my way home to Scotland. I know that visitors from outside the UK ask for places to visit so I will report back.

I'd love to see some pics. As far as Morgan being an alternative to MG..... naaaa.

Overpriced toys used mostly to show off to your friends that you'd rather own one Morgan than 2 or 3 MG's.

Jan, they have 2 Morgans they rent for the day at the factory. If you have time it's a blast! I did it for my 65th birthday.

I had someone yell out to me in my TF as I drove by, "nice Morgan." It's a reasonable mistake really.

Ditto from bicyclists headed up hwy 215 toward the Blue Ridge Parkway. I just smiled. Jud

At least your T will only leave one oil drip The Mog will leave that plus two more from the front suspension oiling system. I say suspension with a laugh 3" front 2" at rear.If the front wears then you have a tank slapper at 70, not funny.

I've seen one Morgan with a retrofitted front end. Looked like Mustang II (hot rod favorite).

Make sure to stop at the Morgan Pub, near the High Street in town. It's worth it just for looking at the sign (note both sides of the sign are different!)

Then take a hike up on to the hills above Greater Malvern... it's an AMAZING view! You can see the Salsbury Plain on one side and the Black Hills of Wales on the other... and it's so quiet... just you, the view and the wind.

I've been to the Morgan factory several times, as far back as the late 70's, when a 'tour' consisted of stopping in, asking the secretary at the front desk if you could go for a walkabout, then after she said 'sure!' just wandering throughout the works and chatting with the different workers. I understand now it's more of a formal guided tour thing... sad, but I suppose necessary.

Morgan factory is an interesting place to visit and see the hand built techniques still being used. Definitely a destination for those possessing deep pockets, guide saw himself as one of the landed gentry.

I went on the visit pondering buying a new Morgan but after comparing one with my TF have totally rejected the idea. The TF is so much better looking especially from the rear. Modern Morgans have fuel injected engines and I suspect computer diagnostic sockets. Earlier ones are better but current models look bloated and are so wide. Many bits and pieces don't look right to someone used to a "real" classic car. An example is the use of surface mounted flashing indicators rather than the original Lucas ones that fit into holes in the wings. (I noted at the MG Weekend at Silverstone that the Naylor TF copies also have theses urghhhh!) However a visit to the factory is certainly worth while. The guides are owners' club members rather than employees are ours was very knowledgeable. We were even able to have afternoon tea in the factory canteen.
