MG TD TF 1500 - alternator conversion revisited

I've just followed a couple of the alternator conversion threads. Very interesting, and something I know nothing about - I know that I have a long black cylindrical thing on one side of the motor which ISN'T my starter motor, and the tachometer attaches to it, and the whole thing runs on the fan belt and magically produces electric power.
So you can buy expensive "alternator inside a generator housing" setups which have tach takeoffs and will give you twice the power of your generator for about five times the money.
I know somebody is selling a "Dynamator" but that sounds like there is no tach takeoff.
People have tried Ford Transit alternators but they don't fit?
What has anybody else done? Any other small generator/alternator alternatives?

Here is a thought... Has anybody found a way to couple the tach to some other rotating object on the engine? Theoretically (given room, which we don't have) you could use an extra pulley, an extra mount, and a longer fan belt, and mount the tach on the second pulley and strap in a normal alternator where the generator is now... or maybe not???
Things that make me go hmmmm....

Geoffrey - Jerry Felper felperg@earthlink.net in Southern California does an alternator modified to drive the tach in the TDs. Cheers - Dave

Geof, the mechanical conversion is not an issue. Enclosed please find a couple of Pictures concerning a 55 Amp Ford alternator conversion with an outlet for the tach.
It fits perfect in the TD but unfortunately I do not have a Picture of the installed alternator.
By the way, I use the original V-Belt and the original Pulley.
Cheers

Can you give me a part number? Seems like there are a lot of Ford alternators on eBay and they have many variations...

Sorry Guenter, I just realized I can see the part number from the photo :) thanks!
