MG TD TF 1500 - Ammeter for sale?
Anybody have an original ammeter from an early TD for sale? The one I have has a round bezel rim not the original V shape. Mine looks right & works fine & I was not aware that it was not original until I had the facia panel apart & I compared it to the original oil gauge while polishing both bezels. Most people wouldn't notice, but, being anal & pedantic... Cheers Peter TD 5801 |

How early? 20/20 or 30/30? Tom |

Peter, The original Lucas ammeter rims don't have the same profile as the other small gauges. From the panel surface, the others have a flat edge that comes out a bit, then an angle out to the crest of the "V", and then angles in (ie two angles). The Lucas has no flat surface, from dash panel edge, it just curves out to the "V", then inward (ie one angle at the v only). This is because the ammeter case/rim is one piece, the others a separate rim. Hope that makes sense. What numbers are on the chrome case? I think it is a model BM4, part # 36153 for the 30 amp one. Can you post a picture? George |

Dunno Tom. All I can tell you is my car was built on the 1st Feb 1951, TD 5801. I bought it when I was 19 & I've had it longer than I've had my wife! The Lucas ammeter is 20/20 & is a BM4 with a one piece case & rim as George describes. George, The part number is different to that of the 30 amp unit, being 369274 94(3?). On the same line as BM4 is the number 32. Can't post a pic as the wife has the digital camera. It's definitely a Lucas, so maybe it is original as it came with the car, just has a different rim to the oil gauge. My oil gauge was pinched about 43 years ago & the unit I have now is a replacement, purchased second hand shortly thereafter. It does have a separate rim just like the Tacho & Speedo. In a couple of days I should be able to post pics of both instruments. When you say the other small gauges George I hope there are only just the two, the ammeter & the oil gauge? Thanks guys. Only one other small gauge original on the early TD (oil pressure), by gauges I meant any/all of the other small ones-temp, oil pressure, dual, boost etc. that I have seen. |

Peter, I have a TC as well as a TF (they rule). The TC ammeter is a 20-20. As mentioned earlier in the thread the bezel is different to the oil gauge. It must be the way they were. |

Thanks George & Max. I'll keep my ammeter. (Still just a TD with a pretty face!) |
