MG TD TF 1500 - And another hardtop...
Okay: this has a high Anorak-level and is probably of interest only to our Dutch readers. This all steel TD hardtop is up for sale for the third time on "marktplaats". So far it didn't find a new owner... ![]() |

However in the June 1952 issue of the Nuffield Exports Magazine (page 7), I found this photo which makes things slightly more interesting...

So it seems possible this is a one-off hardtop made by Roeloffzen for his own TD which he used extensively in motorsports. (Gert Roeloffzen was a colourful person in Dutch motorsport history: ex-WW2 fighter pilot and frequent participant in the Tulip Rally). Here we have a photo from the Utrechts Nieuwsblad which shows his TD on the left finishing the 1951 Tulip Rally. (provincial (Overijssel) licence plate being the same E-5045) Wonder if the hardtop was used in the 1952 edition of the Tulip ? (Roeloffzen did enter that one with a TD but I'm not sure if it's the same car) Just my 2 cts... Nick, TD3232 ![]() |

Nick, thanks for the posting; this would be a fascinating story. It would be far too expensive to ship to North America, but just out of curiosity, how much money is the owner asking for it? |

I made the mistake of showing it to my wife- she wants it! We have a fiberglass top and really enjoy it. The advantage to ours is the top comes off and leave the windshield. The steel one would have to be permanent or have Brookland windscreens installed. |

Nick, thanks for the photos of the metal hardtop. Like JRN, I also have a fiberglass hardtop and love it. But the metal one sure is interesting! |

I love that top! Would enjoy seeing more info. I wish shipping weren't so prohibitive or I would buy it. |

The owner is asking 250 euros for the hardtop, unfortunately the top isn't complete as the left "door" is missing. Hope the link works: http://www.marktplaats.nl/a/auto-onderdelen/oldtimer-onderdelen/m766760765-mg-td-winterkap-staal.html?c=8c285449651fa109c354bbabe740c1b&previousPage=lr In the meantime I've found out that Roeloffzen did NOT use the top in the 1952 Tulip Rally. A photo in the 3rd May issue of Dutch magazine "de Autokampioen" on page 675 shows his car with the standard softtop on. He finished way back in the field that year as 131st in general clasification. (Navigated by K. ten Bruggecate and with starting# 221) Still I think the connection is interesting... ![]() |
