MG TD TF 1500 - Arnolt heater color

I'm sure this has been discussed, but search isn't finding it...

I'm going to install the heater that I picked up about a year ago, 'cause the engines out, tunnel's out... lots of room.

Is there consensus for a best match for that original hammered gold/bronze paint?

In the archive do a search. Look for all words: arnolt heater color. I found 15 threads. Bud

Yeah, I know I posted the exact paint colors to use, as well as the technique to get it right.

Archive.... OK. Search didn't do it.

Hope you don't mind Kevin, here are your instructions again:

As to the paint, the original color kind of a light bronze color but you can't buy it as far as I know. Per recommendation of Ben Cordsen (leading expert in Arnolt Heaters), I used Rustoleum #7210 Hammered Gold to spray a base coat, and then while it was still wet I lightly misted the pieces with #245218 Hammered Brown. I suggest starting on a test panel or cardboard to get the technique down before you spray your heater, but it works very well. My finished heater was done this way, and it is the color shown in the photo below - I think it's really close to the original color.

Thanks.

I wonder what the 'Search' function is supposed to do as compared with 'Archive'. Anybody know? Bud

I don't know if they were all the same color over the years, but the best match I found for the original paint on the heater that came with my TF was the strangely named "Hammered Oatmeal" (250899) Rustoleum. To match the silver color on the doors I used another Rustoleum -I think it was called something like Matte Pewter, but not sure on that. The Oatmeal seemed closer to the pinkish bronze on the heater than the other "hammered" colors they had to choose from. Sorry, the photo is not the best.

Yeah, sorry, I've been flat-out busy all day so I couldn't search it out for you, but glad you found it. Oh, and I sandblasted all the parts prior to painting so I'd get a good 'stick' for the paint.

Is the bronze the only color the heaters were manufactured in I ask, because I have the opportunity to purchase the one in the attached photo.

Here is another photo of my soon to be acquired heater.

I have only seen them in bronze, as far as original finish goes. I would guess that the red one has probably been re- painted to match a red interior, but who knows..
