MG TD TF 1500 - Aus Liebe zum Sportwagen
Wiard Krook, a Dutch expert on pre-war MG's, told me of the book "Aus Liebe sum Sportwagen" written by Hagen Nyncke and Halwart Schrader. Mr Nyncke is a German expert on MG. The book was published in 1999 and is written in German. It contains 225 pages featuring a comprehensive history of MG together with many pics. I bought a new copy at the MG Drivers Club Deutschland, priced Euro 50 + postage. But it's also available at the usual internet sites. Interesting is a separate chapter about "Specials made in Germany". Mr Nyncke explains that MG-importer Woodhouse asked Fritz Hennefahrt in Bad Cannstatt to build a copy of the TD coach on a rolling chassis ex Abington, due to the shortage of steel etc. after WWII. That was in July 1951. The finished cars were distributed among the handful of German MG-dealers (a.o. Zeppelin Garage, Odendahl, Hugo Pfohein). Most, if not all, were sold to GI's who took them with them on their way home to the USA. In this book no word about "Zeppelin TD"...maybe a nickname? As far as I understand the cars were made by Hennefahrt for Woodhouse, and were distributed via the dealers. Jasper ![]() |

Sorry...Hennefarth it is, not Hennefahrt. |

Internet translation for those of us who are polyglot deficient: Aus Liebe zum Sportwagen = For the love of the sports car Jud |

Hagen Nyncke "identified" the XK-Jaguar replica body on TD chassis as made by Hennefarth too. During that time it was rumoured that Hennefarth had made all replica TD bodied cars. Strange thing is; there is virtually not a single piece of information on Hennefarth or bodies built by that firm. Whereas other German coachbuilders are well documented this company remains very mysterious. It is of course fully possible that the Zeppelin Garage was only the seller of the replica TD bodies and NOT the actual constructor. The whole subject needs a lot more research before a definitive chapter on these cars can be put down to paper... Just my 2 cents, Nick (TD3232) PS> Wonder if Wiard Krook has some photos on the Veth-built razor edge TD-coupe ? |

The Veth built TD coupe is still in existence and undergoing a full rebuild. |

For all other members: it's this car we're talking about:![]() |

Nick, Alas I'm not the owner or restorer. I think the owner doesn't like the whole world to know about his cars. I'll ask if he can send a picture. |
