MG TD TF 1500 - Back Draft Eliminator

Mort has shown us his solution to reducing the back draft while driving many times.
I was just up to the lumber yard and there was a BMW Convert there with what may be a factory solution.

A similar approach could be fabricated for the TD/TF. i believe

At any rate its interesting.

These are very common items in new cars, where people don't want their hair to get messed up. Some people adapt them (or make their own) for older vehicles but to me, they look completely out of place on a vintage car. I'd rather just put the top up and use a zip-out rear window. Better yet, just enjoy the breeze. ;)

Given the demographics of the average T series owner i don't think wind blown hair is a problem any more :-)

It is not for me Tim, but my wife!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim, I was just kidding. Sorry if it offended. I certainly didn't mean to.

If installing a windblocker was the only way I could get my wife to drive with me, then I certainly would! Being a roughing it kind of guy, I'm lucky that my wife decided to buy herself some "cute hats" to keep her hair in order. But whatever it takes, is what we must do!

No offense Tim. For my self I love the wind.
My wife wont even allow the windows down in the Buick Lacross.

Attached shows my hair in 1968 when I started the rebuild.

Add 50 years to that.

VW EOS has a like back flow preventer. Works very well. Wife is happy (make that acceptable) to travel with top down. TD 7191 not so much.

I've seen some draft screens fitted to TCs and TDs. A small bracket is made to fit in the rear side screen sockets and is in turn bolted to a plexiglass screen. Fairly simple to make, but I have no hair to blow around. My wife wears a Tilly hat and likes the wind.

I can't quite see one of these shields working too well in a TD with a flat windscreen, side curtains likely not in place and cut down doors. Probably better suited to a wind tunnel designed modern convertible with a radically raked front windscreen and seats set low in the car.

PO installed something similar on my MGB (perhaps from Moss) and I think it could be adapted to the TD but it doesn't work well on the MGB and I don't think it would work at all on the TD. Hats with chin straps work.

I guess you folks don't drive with the windscreen down?? Especially if the War Department is on board!

... the only way to go, unless its raining.

4mm plexiglass and Velcro straps work well on our stag with side windows and a T bar but I can’t see it working on the TF. I considered the flying helmet and goggles but made the mistake of looking in a mirror when I tried one on....
