MG TD TF 1500 - Battery drain

Is it possible that the clock in my 1953 MG TD MKII is draining my battery? I continue to have some kind of drain on my battery. Where should I look?
Thanks,
Susan

helo Susan. Start with the battery itself.
disconnect the cables.lLead batterys can be selfdraining ( a short inside).
If you are driwing with lights heater and other el. equipment, your battery will not
be fgully charged when you stop the engine.

Susan, do you have any sort of alarm system in the car? Bud

Disconnect the battery and see if it runs down by itself like Thoralf suggests first. Perhaps the battery to a parts store and have it tested as well. The clock would take a couple weeks at least to run it down. Let us know results of that. George

Susan - The others have given good advice on testing the battery - it may very well have exceeded its pull date. I would add one bit of advice - once you have determined if the battery is worth keeping or if you should get a new battery, go to your local auto parts store and purchase a Battery Tender (brand name) or other battery maintainer and every time the car is parked in the garage, connect the battery maintainer to the battery (I installed an inconspicuous socket in our TD so I can plug the Battery Tender in whenever the car is parked without having to open the bonnet). A very basic battery maintainer is relatively inexpensive and will add years to the life of whatever battery you have in your car.

Lead-acid batteries (standard automotive batteries) will go flat anytime they are left to sit, unused - there doesn't have to have anything connected to them to discharge them. A battery maintainer will keep the battery in tip top condition by using a trickle charge to bring the battery up to the ideal voltage, then turns the charge off and lets the battery to discharge to a preset voltage (always high enough to start the car), at which point the charger comes back on and, again, brings the battery back up to the optimum voltage. For information,
The original electromechanical clock draw an average current of 10 mA from the battery.
Let's assume a battery capacity of 60 Ah.
The battery gets drained out in 6000 h : 8 month.
The problemm is elswhere or the clock has failed.
