MG TD TF 1500 - Before I cut-A carpet installation issue
I am putting in a Moss carpet set. (1952 TD LHD.) I have Moss's instructions, Both of Daves instructions and Horst's book. I have read the posts in the archives that start with"carpet". My understanding is that I start with the front drivers piece and then move to the transmission cover. In general the piece supplied by Moss for the front drivers side fits OK toward the back, (with a little trimming around the foot well) BUT it appears I need to take quite a bit off the front top section near the transmission cover. Much more than I would expect. See Picture I have marked the area I feel needs to be trimmed in chalk. Before I cut, does this seem reasonable? Jim B. ![]() |

Jim, I believe the transmission cover is to be installed before the left and right carpets. That way, the edge of the trans cover is covered up by the side carpets and makes a nice, even appearance. Otherwise, the transmission cover will present a ragged, uneven edge all the way around. I prefer the neat, tidy look. |

Thanks; Jim But what about that amount of trimming? There will be even more around the transmission cover. Jim B. |

I recently installed the Abingdon kit, using especially Dave's directions. I did the tranny tunnel first, and had to cut a lot off of the sides of that piece. The floor pieces just lay up against it and cover the edges. I don't recall making such a bit cut where you marked, but different kits may not be comparable. Not sure if my install is exactly correct, but I think it looks good. George |

I also installed a carpet kit from Abingdon just last summer. Placed the tranny cover first, then then passenger and driver's side. Did no trimming. I purchased the carpet kit in 1991. I do not work terribly fast. |

I think that will help a lot Chris. I now remember reading this a weak or two ago. Jim B. |
