MG TD TF 1500 - Before I die... Indicators
I was planning to mount my rear indicator addition using the bolt/ nuts where the petrol tank side panels are attached on my TF. I tapped some motor bike indicators that look great and have them ready to go by treading them onto the end of the 'bolt' instead of the done head nuts on at the moment. Normally of course all lights are earthed to the chassis and it occurred to me that the petrol tank is perhaps separated from the chassis so .. a: may not provide a good earth b: this may be for a very good reason c: i need to run an earth wire from my lights and isolate the light from the petrol tank. Any advice ? Dave 1955 MG TF |

A. The tank should be grounded with the low fuel sending unit...but it might not be a very good one since most of the screws are usually set with a sealer. B. I'd have concerns about the mount if some minor shunt were to occur. The fitting is brazed into place on the tank and may tear away easily. Just my thoughts..best of luck. |

Just my 2 cents, but I would never mount anything electrical to a fuel tank, other than what was factory designed to be there! JMHO. PJ |

Most bike indicators are plastic. Simply run a separate earth with the feed. See my set up, I found that people are now not used to red indicators.I was stopped a few times by them telling me I had an earth fault in my brake lights. Ray TF 2884 ![]() |

IMHO: Best way to do additional lights on a TF are inside the "1500 tub reflectors". Did this on mine 12 years ago. Completely incognito and unnoticeable, but up higher for better visibility. My harness was pretty tore up for the lights when I got the car. No brainer for me was to cut it back and make new connections "inside" the tub using Lucas soldier type bullets. The extra lamps are regular bulbs right now, however on the "bucket list" , is to change them to led type. These should be even brighter than the ones in there now. Moss does sell the reflectors and lens for these if your TF (1250) does not have them. |

My car doesn't have the tub reflectors. Hadn't thought of adding them to then convert... Already making good progress with this option so will stick with it for now. I may use the tub reflectors later for extra brake lights. Once done I 'll publish a step by step guide. Have been taking photos along the way. :-) Dave |

I mounted chromed metal motorcycle indicators on mine and they are very bright. They cost about 20€ a pair. Regards Declan ![]() |
