MG TD TF 1500 - Bill's TC

Finally got some new rubber in it

MG LaVerne

Rolled it around

MG LaVerne

Hope you don't need new ones because apparently we got the....

MG LaVerne

Pulled the gas tank last night

MG LaVerne

It wasn't pretty. Bill picked it up and its' off to the radiator shop for a clean out and coating

MG LaVerne

Took a short break a bit ago and went out and hooked up a gas can to see if it would fire. It did but she's running rough. Tach works but apparently something is amiss between the dynamo and the tach. Leaking severly at the exhaust manifold flange. But no water pouring out any where. Oil pressure was good. Synced the carbs but did nothing else.

Ok back to work on an ugly home project.
MG LaVerne

It sounds like it so only running on he here cylinders. I'd check the plugs points and wires

Definitely not firing on at least one cylinder. Should be less of a put put and more of a roar.

I've heard worse...you seem to be moving right along, LaVerne. It'll be sorted and out of your hair soon, I'm sure.

hope to see it Saturday?
efh Haskell

I'm not sure if I'll make it Saturday Ed. In the middle of a B&^%$h repair on the house. I may need to stay home and keep at it if we get our helper again.

Ya I'd say about 2 1/2 cylinders...most likely fuel..I pulled the wires one at a time....3 and 4 no change but they are providing spark....1 and 2 killed the engine....I didn't have time to play with it....just needed a diversion for a few minutes. Like right now.
MG LaVerne

what did you settle on for tires?
R Brown

Excellsior Comp.... 99 bucks each from Coker..asked how old they were and the salesman said 4 years old. Date code says 9 years. :-( obviously why they were on sale.

Look like they should be good for several years.

MG LaVerne

Not a big two tone man but that car looks really nice in that configuration.
Tom Maine

Just don't get closer than 30 ft. The poor baby really needs a full restoration. Looks a little better to me than when we hauled it out here. It took a while before he decided to let me rattle can the black over the red under the fenders and the frame. i think that was a big help.

MG LaVerne

Got this as a gift a few years ago. I don't see the resemblance....must be a Chinese thing.

MG LaVerne

But is it Ash?

I have a few toys sold as MG's but you would be hard pressed to recognise them.

Chinese is actually quite appropriate for MG now.

I'd sure love me some TC. I'd trade my TD for one any day. Just really love that look of those wheels. And the wires on a TD is just not the same.

would TC rims/tires go on a TD?
L Rutt

Makes a big difference when you get 3 and 4 plug wires in the right order...duh. Ran some radiator flush through it for a good while and then cut the hoses and pulled the radiator. Boy have the TC guys got that easy.

Same arrangement without any crap in the road. You can use a socket and a ratchet. I may have to hit my thumb with a hammer for pennace. :-)

Thermostat actually works... Flushed a lot of crap out of the radiator. I'll pull the grille slats out and blast them and paint the same color as the interior. Tach cable is spining but nothing going on with the tach.....hmm... it worked when I bench tested it?

No way you could get those 19 inchers in a TD/TF fender well.
MG LaVerne

LaVerne, are you getting good rotation at the output of the tach reduction gear? On my TD (don't know if there is any similarity to a TC) the gears had somehow gotten into different planes so the input gear was spinning gaily but not meshed with the output gear. Just a thought.

Tried to edit that to add the picture but it looks like I failed.

It also could be that the little two-piece shaft has come apart or is just spinning inside the gear without turning the gear. I had to press mine back on pretty firmly to get the shaft and the gear to keep together.
