MG TD TF 1500 - bleeders leak all of them

Gent's after a painstaking resto and even more painful wallet shrinkage over the last 1 1/2 year I am somewhat frustrated to put it mildly.

I had ordered from M ... new brake banjo bolts and new adopters as well new bleeder screws'. Everything should be perfect not ??? .
The first set I received I could return because they all leaked like h..l . Got a new set and I thought lets look a bit close and YES I found machining debris in two bleeder screws , cleaned them out and confidently put them on the car Guess what??? leaking like a open water tap . This time ( 5 weeks down the road now from my first order ) had to return them again. Yes I got a new set ( the third set )No excuses or something nothing at all. Gues ? again.. leaking even more than the other ones.

I was ready to explode grabbed the phone and called them ( M.. ) again . THE SALES MAN's ANSWER WAS ...YEAH, I know they all leak do you want another set ?. If my son had the gut's to give a answer like that to a client He probably would need see a doctor

For the latest leaktest banjo bolt / bleed screw I used my vacuum pump with a meter no vacuum possible )
Didn't want to loose time bleeding brakes and brake oil.

In the meantime still looking for the right parts anybody out there to help ?.

Sorry for the long post ,

Gerard

I understand your frustration. This is why I have ordered all my parts from Abingdon Spares.
Frank Cronin

I second Abingdon Spares. But have you looked into the after market bleaders with the check valves in them.

My suggestion is that with any banjo type unions you can mirror-polish the flat sides and also mirror polish the washers; this makes for a much more satisfactory fit. I found this when building a biodiesel motorcycle - and biodiesel is a penetrant, like WD40 and will find its way through just about anything. But by using a very fine slow wetstone grinder and then polishing and buffing, I could get banjo unions to fit perfectly, no leaks.

Frank : thanks for your understanding.

Yes I know their products and they are good. But if the bleeder screw is not bottoming and closing perfectly they are just as useless as the ones I have right now. Abingdon Spares . For sure I am gonna switch to them.

I don't have a problem with banjo unions but with banjo bolts only. I also alway's aneal copper washers even if they look new to avoid dripping or sweating.

I've had a gutfull of Moss as well. Still waiting for a reply to a number of emails sent 18 months ago! I'm keeping their catalogue purely for reference & now only deal with Bobbie from Abingdon Spares. Good service & quality parts. Cheers

Gerard:
If you have had old wheel cylinders sleeved due to corrosion, make sure the brake bleeder seat is clean and well formed or your bleeders will never seal. The bleeder must seat well on its seat machined in the cylinder.

I second Jim's suggestion:

I was fortunate enough to be able to clean up the original banjos and hollow bolts, bought new soft copper washers and all new lines and have no leaks thank goodness! I have DOT 5 in the system also. PJ

Folks, part SB3820 is out of stock. I did find some on ebay though... just a FYI

Speedibleeders total failure for me. See archives.

I would make a point to get through to the correct person at Moss and discuss with them. They need to know there is a quality control issue, especially with a brake part. Sales may or may not get the message through. Moss has always addressed the few quality issues I have had over the years, but Abingdon seems to have more quality British repros and true NOS stuff. Thanks Bud for your comment I have talked to M multiple times about this issue but to no reveal.
I followed your advice and adressed the matter again to day ( it's dragging for over 14 month's now )Now I got the promise that they will check and let me know.

We wait and see,

I ran into a similar problem with the speedbleeders. I'm not sure if the ball bearing got stuck but once I bled the cylinder out it would hold for a while then get spongy again. I ended up putting the old ones back then back bleeding the line with a syringe and a conical shaped attachment.

Recondition OEM parts when you can, I do not use replacement parts, when the original ones can be reconditioned. New replacements are not OEM quality!
Also use caution with using replacement chromed parts & rubber parts. Abingdon Spares & NTG have the best.
