MG TD TF 1500 - Bolts: Up or Down

I was attaching the front rubber suspension stop (new type with the spacer). Question came up if the bolt goes head down or head up.

Looked on the internet and see it both ways. I do have a picture that may be a factory picture that shows the head on the top. That would probably be my choice.

So, I figured I would get input from the group.

Here's a picture of mine, bolt head on top, as I started my rebuild. I'm quite sure it's original.

I asked a similar question awhile back and the response was that the head of the bolt is always on the item that the component is being attached to. Made sense to me. Cheers

Old George always had the heads on top except on the cold winter mornings when his arthritis was playing up and he found it easier to put the nuts on top.

It may be a logic that derives from living downunder for 50 years but I figure that if the head is on top then if the nut comes undone the bolt may stay in position for long enough for its absence to be noticed. If the head is down it is more likely to make its absence noticed in other ways.

Always good engineering to place THE HEAD ON TOP, thread facing downwards, cheers Trevor

Does it matter?

Bolt on top so if the nut leaves there's a fighting chance to avoid catastrophe. Tie rod ends are almost always 'bolt pointing down' for this reason.

I like the thinking of putting the nut on the part you are attaching to. Easy to remember.

Jan. From the internet pictures I looked at, it apparently does not. Saw a lot either way.

Going for a restoration as close to factory as I can do by myself.
