MG TD TF 1500 - Box Spanner From Kit?
This 'box spanner' has been kicking around in my tool box for a while. One end has a rubber insert to hold a spark plug. The other end seems to about 19mm across. There are no markings on it, whatsoever. Any chance that it's from an OEM tool kit? Bud

Bud, I remember in the 50s, American cars came with a tool kit of sorts and I remember a spark plug wrench was included in them with a little rod to turn them. As I remember they looked similar to yours. But I think they were the same size full length, not tapered like yours. PJ |

Bud, I vaguely remember that VW beetles had something like that. I still have a similar one from one of my Porsches. Why did I ever sell my 911T Targa. Jim |

PJ, that's just a view phenomenon called parallax. Both ends are almost identical in size. Interesting thing is that the holes for the rod are aligned on the side, but all of the ones that I've see for T-cars are staggered. this is a quite thick steel in it. Jim, I feel that same way about my '59 Cabriolet. Bud |

Bud, it does not look right for a T type going by the originals that I have seen (which are usually stamped King Dick). Attached pic of my TF1500 kit. ![]() |

Jim Neel is most likely correct. Have one like that as a left over from my Beetle (split rear window 1956 ) Gerard |

Another difference is that the hex ends are formed out from the base tube. It looks as if OEM T tools are pressed inward to cre4ate the hex sides. I wonder if the other end of this one would fit a VW lugnut. Bud |

Yup, it looks like a VW wrench to me, They had this wrench, a metal bar to turn it, a screw driver and a pliers in a small vinyl pouch, tied together with a string. -David |
