MG TD TF 1500 - Brake/Clutch box gasket

Is the gasket for the brake/clutch side plate one solid gasket or is it cut out in the center?

I could not find it on any of the supplier catalogs.

Never seen a gasket on that side plate. Many cars don't even have the side plate. If I were making a gasket ( I'm not) it would be a rubber sheet the same shape and size as the side plate (solid).

Why a gasket when there is a hole under the box. I have fitted a round plate over this hole to keep out the crud as my car is used all year round. A jet wash and then a leaf blower gets rid of the moisture before it goes back in the garage.

I believe there originally was a gasket under the side plate so I made one using good quality gasket material. I also used an appropriately sized rubber grommet to plug up the hole under the box. Cheers

The parts manual mentions this seal:
"Seal-side cover-plate P/N 126975"
I can't find any picture showing its shape.

I cut a gasket for the pedal box side-cover from 1/16" Fel-Pro 3018 cork/rubber gasket material. Use the cover as a pattern and cut out the middle. Leave extra material around the stud and bolts.

No hole in TD 4136 (Nov 50). It would be interesting to see when the hole was added.

The images answered my question.

If there is one thing I regret about my rebuild of the TF it is that I didn't take the plasma cutter to the pedal box and redesign the lot. The draughtsman who drew up the original design has a lot to answer for. I did make one modification and that was to turn a waist on the shaft where it fits inside the chassis. It now locates on two 1/2" points rather than the entire length so the next owner should be able to tap it out with ease. Has anyone done a re-design, possibly as part of a conversion from RHD to LHD or vice versa.
