MG TD TF 1500 - Brake pedal thickness

I can see that a corner of the brake pedal is worn off but were the originals really that thin?

TW Burchfield

Ordinarily I would say that the pedal pads are made of pot metal, and do wear, especially when there is no rubber cover. But in your case, I suspect someone has modified them to suit his/her feet, and has both shaped and thinned the pedal to get just a bit more room.

Looks like they shaped it to match pointy wing tips!

The pedal surface has ridges on the left and bottom side that look like they were to aid in holding on the rubber pad. The ridges on the top and right side are missing. I see Moss doesn't have these pedals and Abingdon Spares want a fortune. Hope they come up on eBay occasionally. They look so thin I'm afraid I'd break one of them.

Maybe it is just a nice, all original car with only 788 documented miles ;-)

It's the undocumented ones I'm worried about. :-)

I don't know that an owner would go to this much trouble to 'shape and thin' the pedal pad for clearance, when removing the spacer would give a better and quicker result. Looks like it was driven for a long time without a cover by someone with sandpaper soles on their boots.

I agree David. The clutch pedal is very thin also but worn evenly over its surface. I hope they will hold the rubber pads on.

I think its just wear without pads for years and a whole lot more miles than 788. :-)

Here is a picture of my brake pedal pad I flip and moved over the clutch. Not quite as worn as yours but was getting there.

One problem you will have is there is no meat to keep the pedal in the pedal pad. I have not found a good adhesive yet for rubber to metal to hold them in place.

Well, I have learned something new - that the pedals have rubber pads! The education never stops

I have some of these pedal pads with little or no wear if anyone wants to make an offer for some ?.
