MG TD TF 1500 - BUMPER QUESTIONS
I would like to know the correct bumper blade length for the front & rear bumpers on a 1950 TD. My front bumper does not appear to be the correct one for a TD. It does have the center hole for the crank. There are no over rider bolt holes near the bumper to frame attachment point. There are two holes about 8 1/2 inches out board. My front bumper is 58 inches long, tip to tip. My rear bumper also does not appear to be correct. There is no center bolt hole yet there are 3 bolt holes near the end of the blade on each side. the blade length is 55 3/4 inches long. The blade tips are almost in line with the outer edge of the rear fenders. I just purchased another advertised MGTD rear bumper from a well know MG person. The bumper to frame mounting bolt holes are very close to matching. The two over riders line up properly & there is a center bolt, however the blade length is only 53 3/8 inches long which means that the rear fender outsides are not protected. I have reviewed the archives and all the TD pictures I can find. At this point all three bumpers appear to be incorrect for a TD. I have to wonder if my new to me short rear bumper is correct? Thanks Morris |

Morris: My original front bumper is 53 1/2" tip to tip. Sounds line the one your purchased recently has the correct length. |

The attached picture shows the newly purchased rear bumper on the floor with the bumper which came with the TD on the car. The one on the car does not have bolt holes for the over riders & has extra bolt holes. This bumper does provide protection to all of the rear fenders. Last night I went thru most of my old Sacred Octagon magazines and did find one TD picture with the shorter bumper on the floor. Please continue to the next msg and pictures. Cheers Morris ![]() |

This picture shows the newly purchased shorter rear bumper cleaned up a bit with the trailer hitch removed. Is this shorter [53 3/8 in long] rear bumper correct for a 1950 MGTD? Cheers Morris ![]() |

This final picture shows the current front bumper off the TD. It has the correct crank hole but the extra bolt holes, which I assume could be used for over riders are 8 1/2 inches out board from the normal location. I did find a picture of a similar clean blade front bumper on page 21 of the Feb 14 Sacred Octagon. Does anyone know the original source of this 58 in long bumper? Cheers Morris ![]() |

The shorter bumper is correct as I answered above. |

The longer bumpers could be Morris 10 |

Thanks for the response. Just so I am perfectly clear, both front and rear bumpers are the same length & 53 1/2 inches. I note that the Moss catalog has different part numbers. probably the crank hole in the front bumper causing the different numbers. Cheers Morris |

Hi Morris Looking at the picture of your front bumper it "could" be from a Morris Minor. The bumper blades appear a little square on the end in your picture. Brian Campbell river |
