MG TD TF 1500 - Cam Identification

I recently pulled this cam out of a TD2 engine and noted that the lobes were all pretty flat and that the back of the cam had been ground down to nearly the diameter of the shaft between the lobes. Here are a couple of pictures of the cam. The engine had the stock lifters. Anyone have any ideas about this cam?
Thanks in advance, Hugh

Looks plum worn out! Surprising it ran long enough to wear the lobes down that much.

Must have come from an XPAG (eXtra Power All Gone). <grin>

Thanks Lew I needed that for a to good chuckle!
Looks like a regrind or perhaps a second regrind that went through the hardening. The cams that do not have a copper coat between the lobes & Journals only have heat treating of about .030" deep, the ones that do have a copper coat have heat treating to about .120" deep.
If I remember correctly.

I don't think this is wear on the cam since all the lobes are identical (as near as I can measure with a micrometer). In addition the cam followers showed little or no wear. It is clear to me that someone has had this cam ground to this unusual profile and I am trying to see if anyone has seen anything like this.

Hugh, are saying that it's only the base circle that's been cut down? So, it's not that lobes are totally worn down. Is that right? Bud

I had one cam like that and figured it had been ground for the last time, that there was nothing anyone could do with it because there was no "meat" left to grind.

Hugh...are there any ID numbers anywhere on the cam?

Hugh,

The cam was reground and that looks like a more modern cam shape that opens longer and less aggressive; less pointy cam.

If the hardening is still good it would be usable. I wouldn't throw it in the bin, but as Tom says there's no meat left for another regrind.
