MG TD TF 1500 - Capture Nuts
The fender I bought for my TD last summer came with capture nuts for the apron. They are 5/16"-22 BSF. My other fender no longer has any capture nuts and I want to add them and make it the same on both sides. My thought was to make the brackets and JB Weld them in place with the nuts inside. Does anyone know where I can get a couple of 5/16"-22 BSF Square nuts? Thanks, Mort |

British tools and fasteners. I have made the cages, they can be spot welded, brazed or, as a last resort, J B Welded in place. -David |

Mort; I had a similar problem. I had taken my car apart 45 years ago and my memory about things was dim. Also the inner fender wells were replaced. I did not realize there were captive nuts there and had the rear quarters painted. My solution was snap in holders for the nuts. I purchased holders for 1/4" UNC and re-threaded them 5/16-22. Attached is a pix of the installation. These snap into a square hole. No welding or gluing. I believe I still have some (I will need to look) If so I can modify a few for you. Jim B. ![]() |

I just checked Mort. It appears that I did use UNC 5/16 snap in holdera BUT I made 5/16-22 BSF square nuts to go into them. At this point I have 2 extra nuts. I can supply Zinc coated snap in holders or MG Red painted holders They snap into a 15/32 square hole. I made my holes with a square file, Checking with a vernier. Jim B. |

Mort, check with Abingdon Spares. (800-225-0251) They have the caged nuts that go into the rear quarter panels to secure the rear fenders. Bud |
