MG TD TF 1500 - Capture Nuts Missing

I have some capture nuts missing. I believe their 5/16 in BSF threads. Anyone know where these can be had? British tools and fasteners don't list them and neither does B&G or other suppliers I've checked. I could weld regular nuts in place if necessary. PJ

Are these the square ones?
I may have a few shop made ones.

Abingdon Spares has them. Bud

Thanks Bud, I check with them.

And Jim, thanks for the offer. PJ

If that fails, or from the UK/Europe, try Namrick.

The nuts & square housings for both the rear guards & the four behind the engine are easily made Paul. I made all of mine & welded the housings in place. They're all 5/16" BSF. If you don't own any BSF taps maybe check out a second hand engineering supplier. I got a full set for $3 each here in Sydney. You could probably weld those that attach the rear guards as they're not visible but if you're at all concerned about originality, I would urge you to make/buy the other four nuts & housings & those on the front guards, (if applicable to the TF). Cheers

Peter, I need two behind the radiator, one on each side for fender bolts. I have some square nuts with the thread hole small enough to drill out and tap 5/16 BSF threads in them. I made them my self and will spot weld them in place. If I need more, I'll make them also. They are not as original, but their hidden behind the grill and no one will be the wiser. Need to clean up the tabs first. Hears a photo. PJ

Paul,
It would help if the square nuts could float about in the sheet metal housing you made. That will allow for a bit of adjustment of the attaching panel when you bolt it up.
Max Irvine

Never thought of that Max, thanks for the tip! The cages are easily made and I'll make a couple more cages so the nuts can "float". I agree that when the nuts are loose, it's easier to get the bolts in in some areas. Thanks again. PJ

Or if you like the cages you've already made you could just trim down the nuts a bit.
P Hehir

Peter, actually the holes in the cages are not large enough to allow much movement in the nut, so I made new cages with about .040 clearance around the nuts and larger holes. Good idea though, Thanks. PJ
