MG TD TF 1500 - Car prices on TV car shows?
Last night I was watching the Legendary Motorcar Company TV show on Velocity. This is an Ontario Canada restoration/sales shop. www.legendarymotorcar.com They have an impressive amount of rare cars. In the show I saw last night, they bought a 1966 Austin Healey 3000. The car had been redone and was painted yellow over white. They stated they bought the car for $20,000 and were selling it for $24,900 without doing a lot to it. This was by no means a show vehicle, but it did look like a nice driver. Even if this show was a year old, I would think a big Healey would be selling for $35,000 +. So is this just TV or are there really deals like this out there? |

If that's Canadian dollars they bought it for $18,834US. If it's US they bought for $21758 Canadian. Still pretty cheap either way around. |

After a quick look ...not much on their site I could afford! LOL I check the "local market" often. IMHO: Most seem to be pipe dreams, but you can pretty much count on any "CL listings" to be negotiable far as price. (Based on how much the price comes down after they have been listed for a while.) Pretty sure this one was $35+ not long ago: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4419920105.html This has been coming down slowly for over a year...first listed @ $12k: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4431255995.html |

David, go for the 67 GT40 he bought for $3,000,000, it's still available. You'd look good in that. Bill |

I love the optimism of sellers: http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4431255995.html ""1951 MG - TD Car #7162, Engine #LHX5724 (Matching numbers car) Vehicle has been off the road and partially disassembled since 1960. Engine completely rebuilt in 1960 no miles. Car stored outside in recent years but well covered. Many parts stored indoors. Car located in Columbus Ohio. A perfect restorer's project car." A perfect nightmare, more like it... Tom Lange MGT Repair |

I looked at the Healey 3000 recently (and its breathern). I don't think those things are very easy to restore, which probably jacks the price way up. That unibody like construction is amazing from an engineering perspective but don't ask a hack restorer to work on it. |

Looks of course can be deceiving. If Legendary bought it and is flipping it,(without doing much) I would guess it has serious corrosion issues at the fender mounting, and perhaps the frame has issues as well. That sounds like the "unload it' price. |

Must be something CR. They said that they had restored the car for the wife of an art dealer about 10 years back and when he passed away, the wife wanted to sell it. In looking at this shop's inventory, I have never seen so many original cobra's in one place for sale. I will say that the owner of the facility gave a pretty good talk to one potential buyer relating to owning an older british car. With the exception of his bashing of Lucas, he did a pretty good job of laying out that if you want a trouble free car, buy a new one. While I know it is TV, he turned down selling the Healey to this guy because the guy was just unrealistic about how he wanted the car to have no leaks and a car that he could drive anywhere without any worries about it breaking down. I don't see that show in their list, so it may be one of their new season shows. |

The guys name is Peter Klutt, he has been on WHats my car Worth and several other shows. His own show is pretty neat. He does have some nice cars. I don't know about the quality of his resto work but it must be pretty good with the cars that he has and his reputation. Good show and interesting. |
