MG TD TF 1500 - Carburetor Damper Servicing
How much oil is required in the carburetor dampers? The service manual doesn't provide a specification. I assume if the cylinder is filled to the top insertion of the piston would cause it to overflow. |

Hi Corey, just fill to 3/8" from the top of the damper tube. Any slight excess will go into suction chamber and vanish into the intakes. As long as you feel a resistance as you fit the damper you have enough oil. The only time I ever had trouble was on a Triumph M/Cycle as the carb did not like the fluctuations and ate the oil every 100 miles or so. Ray TF 2884 |

Corey, don't buy special oil for the carbs. I have used plain 20 weight motor oil for years and never had a problem. A lot cheaper with multiple uses too! |
