MG TD TF 1500 - Center Instrument Plate TF
What is this covering on my dash plate? I know it's not right and I intend removing it and paint the metal the proper color. The octagon trim pieces have some tabs broken or ready to break! Any way of fixing these so they'll hold in place? PJ

Looks like black vinyl re-done in the days when black was the upholstery colour to have. Wonder if any of the gold-tan paint has survived beneath? Matthew. |

Good question Matthew, I would think that would be a possibility, never gave it a thought though. Now I'm curious. PJ |

Not seeing the reverse side and seeing if there are telltale bits of vinyl . This could be a coat of Hammerite. It seems to have that pebbled look. Sandy |

Mine seem to still be hanging in there after silver soldiering new tabs on 12+ years ago. |

Thanks David, that is my main concern with this piece. Silver solder it will be. I would assume these pieces are made out of Brass, correct? PJ |

That looks like a vinyl overlay from your photo. With a little luck you may be able to peel it off and see if the original bronze paint is still in good shape. If they used rubber cement it might be able to be peeled off. |
