MG TD TF 1500 - Chassis Bumper Bracket Bolts

Are the bumper bracket bolts the same length, front/rear? I have the original rear bolts, but odd US std bolts were used for the front at one time. PJ

Paul, if you look at a Moss catalog you'll see that the front and rear bumper bolts have different part numbers. Bud

See http://www.ttalk.info/Fasteners.htm for lists of fasteners. Interesting that TF front bumper bolts are identified, but not rear bumper bolts. Bud

Ah yes I see what you mean Bud. I'm now assuming the front blots are shorter, since the spacers are shorter. Thanks! PJ

Blots? Oh well, haven't had my coffee fix yet.

The original bolts are 1/2bsf. The length is not critical as long as its long enough!

On the same line of questioning what is the length on the front and back spacers. I was missing these pieces but found a couple at a swap meet last weekend from to different owners. Two were aluminum and one was steel they were all the same length and said to be off both ends of the chassis. So what's the deal. Steel vs aluminum? Length vs position ?

The thicker ones go at the back so that the bumper clears the rear apron. The thinner ones go at the front. Mine measure at 1.25" and 0.5" respectively. I can't think why it would matter whether they are made of steel or aluminium, but they need to be well greased up so that the bolt remains removable. One of mine took several hours of heating and pounding to separate!

Thanks for the heads up Dave on the bolts. I'll be sure to never sieze mine when I finally get to the install.

On the subject of bolt sizes, is there a published list of the various bolt length and various thread/sizes around as used for the TD/TF.
