MG TD TF 1500 - Chrome Wood Screw Source
Eight chromed, oval-head wood screws (No. 8 x 1.5 in) with phillips head pattern hold down the rear top rail set on the TF. Mine are all rusted and dinged. I've tried lots of places, like Ace, Tru Value,(Lowes and Home Depot were pitiful). Does anyone know a US supplier? thanks, Tyler |

If you can live with Chrome plated Brass wood screws, McMaster-Carr. Part # 99917A555 But be aware, the modern heads on FHWS and Pan-HWS is larger in diameter than the ones you removed. I usually machine mine down to size. Jim B. ![]() |

You might try Fastnal. I found a good selection of SS screws there and they may have the chrome plated screws that you need. Jud |

Also, don't know whether you have a Menards in NM, but that's where I get all my chromed slotted oval head wood screws. I shouldn't admit that, as I work for Home Depot. |

Tyler, I used stainless steel. Polish the head, they look better and outlast chrome. You can source these easy on ebay, at good prices. Larry |

Not having very good luck. Looked into all above suggestions, but none have panned out yet, but I left a few emailed inquiries at 3 web sites. I'd get some brass screws plated, but I think they'd torque off during installaion. Might try the SS route. Clips and Fasteners sells a tapping screw (full-length threads) that fits the bill, but it's not a wood screw, and I don't want to buy 100 of them. Tyler |

Aren't the heads painted anyway to match the interior color? Picture is from my TF with original interior. ![]() |

Not all of them Frank. Are yours plated? Just wondering if they had to use an unplated batch which they painted? Matthew. ![]() |

Whoa. Something's not quite right. Perhaps TFs are different, but those screws are covered by the rexine on a TD.Here's an image from Dave Braun's site showing the rear rail: Bud![]() |

Welcome to TF's Bud. (That's factory rexine on Franks car and mine). Matthew. |

Bud, in reference to the pic of Dave Brauns car do you or anyone else have dimensions with mounting hole of the side and top piece the hold the access door into place? The new TD I am working on is missing then and I'd like to make new. Vince |

Matthew and Frank: I cannot remember and am to lazy to go look. Are both of your cars 1250's or 1500's? Or better yet the car numbers? |

One of the advantages of stainless screws is you can adjust the head sizes by spinning them in a lathe or drill and then simply repolish. In the UK the problem is finding slotted, raised head countersunk screws in brass. Our house is Victorian and I needed them to refit door handles and kick plates. Nothing looks worse than flat headed screws. Eventually I got just what I wanted from Spalding Fasteners. Jan T |

Chris, my TF is a 1250. 1414 |

And mine is a 1500 TF9097. Matthew. |

For stainless steel wood screws and/or stainless steel bolts/nuts/washers try Bolt Depot on line. Very reasonable prices and reasonable delivery. WWW.boltdepot.com |

Here's how bad my top rail screws were when I removed them. Three of them busted in half while unscrewing. Tyler ![]() |
