MG TD TF 1500 - Chromed Door Locking Cams

I got my two door locking cams back from Superior Chroming today
They do look better than just the plain brass finish.

So total effort would seem to be:-

$7.00 Brass bar
Free. 4 hours whittling
Free 1 hour polishing
$104.00 6 weeks away for chroming
Free 20 min's fitting to the locks
Done.

Now the little hole in the back of my Silent Travels door latches has its purpose fulfilled.

See what happened when you retire and need to get away for the "Honey do list" for a bit :)

Beautiful Job, Rod. Well done. Bud

Rod, do you have that drawn up? I'd be delighted to put it up on Ttalk so that others (such as yours truly) might be able to make it for themselves. Bud

Rod, I found the details in a thread from 5/17/2013, "Door Lock Latch" #2013051521554125188 . I'd be happy to put it onto Ttalk as a page under your name. Bud

how much would it cost to make with a 3-D printer?
JK Barter

Bud,
By all means post it if you think it is of use. If you need any of the drawings I used or any details or pictures of the whittling - I have a few.

Seems a lot to pay for chrome! but I don't do it that often so WTH.

My Doors are nicely tight and the plunger seats into the striker correctly. When this lock cam is in place there is no movement of the plunger at all.
For the door to fly open my chassis would have to flex at the door about 3/8" for the door to fly open.

Should it do that - I think I would have a hell of a bigger problem then just the door opening :)

It is mainly just to keep kids form jumping in when I'm not there. As some parents don't seem to teach their off spring that you aren't supposed to do that - uninvited.

3D Printer would take a hell of a lot less to make.
Cost? Don't know, what do they use for ink cartridges now?

In one process it seems they use stainless steel powder that is later infused with bronze for 3-D printing -according to a youtube video I just watched-but it might be cheaper to make a mold and cast the pieces. If my shop was equipped with a printer like Jay Leno's I would make some up.......

I do have a 3D printer, but only the type that prints in Plastic or a plastic/brass or bronze mix. Not the really expensive kind that can print in metal directly.
I get asked a lot whether I can make something, but usually the problem is capturing an accurate 3D scan so that it can be converted and used to drive the printer. Otherwise I have to do the design in a CAD like program, which is very time consuming.

It is not a simple process, so for a small run, the usual best answer is to make them via one of the several casting processes.
