MG TD TF 1500 - Clutch Pressure plate
Attached is a shot of my pressure plate and have two questions. First which side faces the flywheel the raised side as seen in the shot or the flat side? Second, can I use an 8" vs. a 7.25" plate? My car number is 1935? I was given the wrong size and am wondering if it makes that much of a difference.

I see a clutch disc not a pressure plate? If you mean an 8" clutch disc, I would think that it would not fit into a smaller pressure plate. |

The side you have up goes into the pressure plate... the flat side goes up against the flywheel. And you should use a matched set... don't use two different sizes. Also, you may want to have your flywheel lightly resurfaced and have it and the clutch pressure plate (and bolts) balanced before you install them. |

Assuming your engine is original, it would use the earlier, 7-1/4" clutch cover and disc, not the 8". Measure your old disc diameter and replace it. The size changed in the 14,000 range. The extended cone on the disc goes to the rear of the car. Also replace the throw-out bearing, and the pilot bushing - plenty in the archives on the latter. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thanks to all. I will be returning the clutch back as it became apparent that I received the wrong part from my local British repair shop. |

If any one is interested, I have a good used 8" pressure plate for sale. Laf48@aol.com 914 420 8699 |
