MG TD TF 1500 - Coil Location

My Coil and bracket is all crammed up against the horn and regulator.

See the enclosed picture

I am sure there is a better location as it is a pain to get at.

Where is the "correct" location for the coil on a TD, and, if different, where is a better location?

That's pretty much the right place. See image from my website.

And the famous 'where does everything go?' drawing. Not really copyrighted by me, but I was too lazy to go through the 10 or so steps to make that one picture not have my copyright when I updated the website last.

I was just reading last night about coils and heat. The coil generates heat and needs to get rid of it so it's usually attached to a large expanse of sheet metal in the fashion shown in the pictures. Also, so as not to add to the heat problem, it is located away from the hot manifold and to get the best spark is located so the high tension lead can be relatively short.

Not my knowledge but from an execellent book I just started reading.

Dave Braun. Thanks for clarifying the copyright.

Its actually a diagram that I made (you will see a similar one for the TF that started out from this one).

You can find the original one here:

Its actually a hot diagram with picture links to the items on the diagram. I do need to update a few of the pictures now that you have reminded me of this.

I noticed an error on the left side. One of the holes marked unused is actually a ground connector. I will try to dig up the source and fix that.
