MG TD TF 1500 - Coil Springs Bad?

Removed first coil spring while working on front end. Not level on top. 9 1/4" at high point and 8 7/8" at low point, see attached pic. If i need to replace where would be recommended. I am in the colony across the pond.
I think i screwed up and entered this twice, if so try to ignore the other one.
Thanks

If the springs are somewhat used and you have gone to the trouble of removing them, then fit new ones as they are relatively inexpensive. I took the advice of B&G and fitted those they specified for a TF. Sorry but I didn't measure them before fitting, though they were longer than those that I replaced.

Unless your car had a distinct lean in the front, I doubt there is anything wrong with your coil springs. After 60 years the geometry if the front suspension would probably put a slight distortion to the coil springs. If both springs are about the same height, I would be inclined to keep them and spend money on something else. My experience with aftermarket parts has not been good.

When measuring the height from the center of the wheel arch on the front wings to the ground on my TD, the right measurement is about 1 1/2" lower. Looking at the car from the front confirms it is lower. I suspect the right spring is compressed more, but a knowledgeable mechanic friend disagrees, but is unsure as to why. He has helped me work on my TD and is usually right in diagnosing issues, but in this case is it possible that I may be correct? Don't know why one spring would be more compressed than the other.

When checking front springs you should not have the rear wheels on the ground. Instead jack up in the centre of the axle to prevent the rear springs interfering.
The springs are OK if the pans are parallel to the ground.

I had a lean on my car when viewed from the back. I was advised to swap the front springs around. It fixed the problem for me.
