MG TD TF 1500 - Contest: Oldest badge (or photo) wins
Contest rules: May be either on your car or in a photograph YOU took at a show. no searching Google for pics, we can find those too and we'll call you out. Must be an authentic example, no repops. Winner gets Spring delivered to his house one week early. Mine (came on my car), from 1953. I've seen a few other authentic ones in better condition on ebay go for $75 to $100.00. I was hoping this would be worth a few bucks, but there are repros out there holding the value down. ![]() |

One not so Old - One Old - One New :) Not sure of the Scottish connection? This was my mothers originally. Way before my time. Rod ![]() |

This isn't going to win for oldest, but it may win for most rare. This is one of only two known to survive, and while the other is extremely beat up, this one as far as I can tell is new, never mounted.

Forgot to mention the age, it's from 1955. |

This may not be the right thread to address this but in any case I found this Badge in one of the boxes that came with an MG that I am restoring. The lettering in the block is LY-6410. Not sure what the badge represents and whether it is an original registration number. Can anybody recognize or identify what it is? Thanks, Bob ![]() |

I'm ex-Royal New Zealand Air Force, so I picked this J R Gaunt badge up thinking it was appropriate. However, when I put it on the net, someone said it was actually Royal Naval Air Service - which ceased in 1917. Of course, the badge needn't be that old - the King's crown could be George V, Edward 8 or George 6. Definitely pre-1953, anyway. The original nickel plate has pretty much gone, and you can see the chipped enamel. I like it, anyway - it's on the car. I'd welcome any more expert advice. David ![]() |

D A, that might be the winner. A badge with history, nice. |

Here's my contribution. I picked this up off fleebay not long after I bought the TF. I liked the idea of having a badge the same year as the car. The red is hard enamel so I believe it is correct. The blue is not. It came to me with black in that area and was in sad shape..sort of like the blue is now after 20000 plus road miles. The Canadian penny is also something I added as whatever was there originally was gone. I googled the rallye (note the spelling Gord :-) ) several years ago and all I came up with was some modern wack job events in Germany if I remember correctly. If anyone has any info I would grateful.

LaVerne, Here is a similar one, for sale on eBay NL for Euro 150,- If this is an original one, the background was black not blue. International Sports Car Club appears to be/was a club in Frankfurt Germany. Jasper ![]() |

I ought to clean mine up...I could do black...150 Euros'? Wow!...wonder if he'd just send me the crest in the upper left ? :-) I think I paid about 15 bucks for mine. |

Car badges are the poor man's (and not so poor) way to enjoy the hobby. Some go for some serious cash. |

LaVerne, Some additional information: Trifels is a mountain in Rhineland-Palatinate, one of the federal states of Germany. At the back of your badge you should read the name of the company that produced the badge: E.F.Wiedmann Frankfurt am Main. The place where you glued the Canadian penny was the place for the (missing) crest of ISCC Frankfurt. The other crest is the one of AvD, Automobilclub von Deutschland. Probably the rally was organized under the supervision of AvD. Rallies for oldtimers and vintage cars are still common in the region of Trifels. See www.rallye-trifels.de for information about recent rallies. Jasper |

Interesting Jasper, I would have thought that if it were a German badge that the words would have been in German...Wonder why English? Seems odd with the crown as well. |
MG LaVerne |
I think the crown is a history thing. The city of Mainz is the capital of Rhineland-Palitinate and In the Middle Ages many kings were crowned in the cathedral of this city. Those were the days of several kingdoms in that part of Europe. Just my 2 cents... In Europe it is quite common for a car club to use English in the name. For instance: MGTTO for MG T-type & Prewar Owners Club Holland. Or ROCH for Rover Owners Club Holland. |
