MG TD TF 1500 - Cooling system

How often do you flush your cooling system? I was power flushing mine every 3 years, but have been 5 years since the last power flush. I did changeout the antifreeze last year and debating if I should power the system this year. The last thing I want is to have the freeze plugs corrode and fail.

About corrosion, I regularly (one year) measure the PH of the antifreeze.
If it is over 8 it is OK. If it turns down to 7 or lower, change it immediately.

No idea about power flushing intervall against mud.

It's good practice to do it once per year, but I'll admit I'm guilty of going several years sometimes.

What I do would be considered just a drain and refill, and I've only done it a couple of times over the last 20 years. What is a power flush...how is that done, what's an indicator that one is needed, and what is it intended to accomplish?

Thanks, Jim

Jim,
Power wash is when they actually use a little bit of pressure and a solution to go through the whole Cooling system. When I first got my car running, it is sat for several years. I was having a problem with it getting very warm. I took it to a specialty radiator shop, and they power flushed it pulling out all kinds of gunk. Haven't had a problem since. I've had a power flushed a couple of times since, last time just drained and refilled though.

There used to be guys at the base of big mountain grades in the desert with radiator flush services. They would connect a high pressure hose to the cooling system and run it in reverse of normal flow to get as much gunk out as they could. Hopefully that would keep you from overheating up the grade. With all that antifreeze running out onto the ground, it's no wonder nothing grows in the desert. ;)
