MG TD TF 1500 - correct ivory paint color

I am trying to find the correct ppg ivory paint color code to paint my TD. In the archives I see some fairly current ( jan. 2014) photos which look like the color I want. The paint number they state is ppg/Ditzler 81271 but when I check the suppliers they say this is not a current number. One dealer indicated that the current number is PPG 90519 which I gather was also a Toyota color in the mid 80's.Can someone help me confirm a number.

Thank,

Ben

Did you try the other numbers listed here:

Ben - I went through this last year and my paint dealer called the ppg headquarters library and they came up with the modern formula they said matched the original chart in their library. Send me and email and I will send you a copy of what I have for the mix.

I also could not get the paint supplier to cross reference the Dupont #'s. I did get a direct match for the original Ivory colour found under layers of paint on my TD. It is a Ford Truck colour Colonial White. I get more info to you if you require.

This is also a Ford Truck color:

Dave: maybe the picture, but that looks too white as compared to Primrose/ Ivory. I had a 52 in that color and it is noticeably more cream colored/ tint. Everybody sees color differently. I believe the Ditzler 81271 code to be correct....Cameo Cream, I believe.

Found some cross-references and one of them is a Buick color from 1962 - Cameo Cream as Brian indicates above.
Has no reference to a Ford color, all are GM colors.

The following page gives several different codes by manufacturer:

This shows the Buick color, Cameo Cream:

When we did my TD, the ivory came up as a ford truck color. I can look at the can if you want.

Note the other TD in the back is much more yellow.

Ben,

I had my body man use Ditzler 81271 as Brian suggests. I have also found the 1962 Buick Cameo Cream, as Bobby G states, to be a good match for touch up. I understand there is a lot of controversy as to whether the Ditzler 81271 is correct or not. I've owned my TD since 1964 and this color seams to be a good match to the original unpainted areas.

Ford uses a color called Wimbleton white that is a perfect match on my original '53 TD. It's available in Spray cans at Auto supply stores here in California.

cj; I think the Wimbelton White is the colour that they use on the cars... Colonial White is what they call the colour when used on trucks at Ford. Apparently they are the same colour...... So what's in a name! Primrose and Ivory seem to be two completely different colours, but they seem to be listed together all the time. Maybe Cris Couper can shed some light.
C.R. Tyrell

I think Pale Primrose is more yellow from my memory. I went through all the colors last year and thought I found current listings for them at the above post.
Christopher Couper

My TD which I acquired as an uncompleted restoration last fall was painted with the Dupont cream color about 15 years ago. The yellow is stronger when out of daylight.

With daylight on the car.

Since my B GT is primrose and my TD Cream, I can truly say there is a major difference.
