MG TD TF 1500 - Crank Pulley
I hope you guys can handle another dumb question. I forgot to torque the crank pulley before I installed the radiator. Any one know a trick to keep the engine from rotating so I can torque it? It's up on jack stands. I put it in first gear and set the emergency brake real hard but it still rotates. What am I missing here? Mort |

What about having someone apply the foot brake very firmly while in first gear? |

I live in an adult community and it is hard to find someone agile enough to climb into the TD while it is up on jack stands. I will try that by the weekend. |

Mort, if the 5th gear bit doesn't work you can always wait until it's on the ground and apply your torque wrench (with extensions) to the dognut as if you're hand cranking starting. Bud |

I would wait until you have the car on the ground (you're not going to start it on jack stands), then put it into 5th with the handbrake on, block your wheels and with your socket just honk down and tighten it as much as you can by hand. Tom Lange MGT Repair |

Thing the above are probably best, but you can pull the starter and put a piece of wood in there to hold the ring gear. |

I can not go thru the hand crank hole due to alignment issues. I was going to start it on the jack stands but I will wait till it's on the ground and follow the above advice. I can get my torque wrench in an operating position between the pulley and the radiator. Thank you all, Mort |
