MG TD TF 1500 - Cylinder honing tool
I am preparing to purchase a honing tool when I came across this site: http://www.brushresearch.com/brushes.php?c1=1 There seems to be 3 questions with regard to the ordering specs. 1-Bore size, They have quite a selection but I will wait to get the head off and measure my cylinder ID's and then order that size or one size up as recommended. 2-Material, There are several but Silicone carbide seems appropriate(comments?). 3-Grit size, They go from 20 to 800. Any suggestions? TIA, Mort ![]() |

These units are ideal for deglazing only. They do not remove the ridge. Sandy |

I do not pretend to know it better ( there still is a lot to learn even at 70 ) But here is the wel ment warning. I think you like to hone the cylinders with the engine in the car. After you'v honed there is a need for a good clean the honed cylinders. This can ONLY be performed with HOT wash and detergent, over and over again untill the water stay's clean with no light grey residue . If not done this way Good luck with bearing life. If you don't believe me . Give the following a try, Get a old motorcycle cylinder or have a old block and perform your earlyer planned way of honing followed by the way you had the cleaning in mind . Then perform give it the hot wash and see for yourself, respectfully, Gerard |
