MG TD TF 1500 - Dave DuBois - Side curtain question

Dave,

As someone who envies your side curtain fitment, I'm curious to duplicate it. I know that you have your curtain frames bent in in such a fashion to provide pre-load at the upper portion of the curtain against the window frame.

I'd like to know the measurement from the bottom of the side curtain frame to the windscreen frame when the top of the side curtain "just" touches the windscreen. I don't want to over bend the frame and load the door latches up too much, but want to maintain enough load to avoid the "flying" side curtain program.

Thanks in advance.

Alex,
I know it's not elegant but this works for me. Just a little strip of aluminum.

Instead of the clips I am now using a small Allen wrench.
The bracket on the windscreen is from the wind wings.

Alex - Sorry, but I don't have any measurements - I just used the tried and true bend/fit until I reached the point where it worked. Mort's method works well also. Cheers - Dave

Mort,

Do you take the "wings" along with you when driving and put them on if/when you drop the top?

Thanks,

Dave, I've hijacked enough threads to last a lifetime so please see the new thread "Installing Side Curtains. Thanks.

Jerry,
I have not been through a full year cycle since I thought of these so it's still a learning experience. At first glance it seems that it would be seasonal. All winter I keep the top on and the wind wings off. This year I just left the wind wing brackets on.
Now that the nice weather is approaching I will almost never have the top up so it will be just the wind wings.
Should I get into a situation where I am on the road and it's raining I will decide what to do then. However it seems to me that there will be an interference between my little bracket and the knurled knob on the wings so I will probably opt to remove the wings.
