MG TD TF 1500 - Did MG Copy This

Considerable similarity in this vehicle to T series even to design of the fuel tank and spare wheel support.

Anyone have a lazy $A150K?

Or did Jaguar/SS copy the MG (J2 1932). The Jaguar 1.5 litre and 2.5 litre sedans were also remarkably similar to MG's VA and SA and were developed at the same time.

The SS90 and SS100 were bloody nice cars though.

The general style of these cars was common in the 30's and 40's. There were dozens of cars with very similar features. It's why average people constantly confuse Morgan and M.G. today.

Love the dots Steve. Way to go! Cecil would be well pleased. Cheers

Beautiful car, but after reading this: "This is a Replica Built To a Very High Standard With Modern Running Gear" I have to wonder what "year" it really is? Did I miss something here? Everything I read in the advert says "1938". Confused as to what the title would actually have on it as it obviously is not a 1938 JAG.

I agree with Steve... a great many manufacturers made similar cars, and over a long span of years. Below is a photo of a similar Czechoslovakian car, the 1935 Aero.

BTW, the "SS" was changed to simply "Jaguar" for several reasons, chief among them was the German Army's use of the term for their most lethal troops.

I once owned one of the last cars made by Swallow Sidecar (the "SS" in SS100)... a Triumph (Standard Vanguard) engined Swallow Doretti, which looked incredibly similar to the later Austin Healey 100-4.

Here's a 1935 Fiat in the same vein... actually a bit closer to the T series at least in size. Photo from last winter's Retromobile show in Paris.

And from the same time period as the TD, how about a Singer?

Peter, as Cecil Kimber himself said, they are part of the name. Simply a matter of design and more visually attractive than without.
