MG TD TF 1500 - Dip Stick Tube
Would one of you fine gentlemen (or lady) please tell me how far out of the block the tube the dipstick fits in sticks up in the later TD/TF engines. Thanks in advance... Gene |

Gene, On My 53 TD it measures between 4 3/8" and 4 7/16" It is somewhat difficult to see precisely down there. 4 13/32 might nail it. Rod |

Gene, If you are messing around with the dip stick tube length, please make sure that the actual dip stick that you are using is the one that is made for your engine. I have heard of shorter dip sticks being used when the PO lost the original one !!! SPW |

George, Steve, Thanks. I have the correct dipstick, the engine just didn't have the tube. The one Abingdon Spares sells is about 3/4" too long so I needed to cut it down...just didn't know how much. |

Gene, If it is too long that is good I would fill the engine with the 9 pints [UK] or 10.8 US pints or 5.1 liters of new oil Run it to get it warm and fill all the passages etc. and check the level on the dipstick. If it reads short and it should - just cut off the length of tube equal to the fluid mark on the dipstick observed and the full mark on the stick when fully home. This should then give you the perfect full measurement. It should also be in the ball park of 4 1/4" of tube or so from cast block to tube end. Rod. |
